IGE extended its collaborative efforts by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the "SHIWA" project. The - SHaring Interoperable Workflows for large-scale scientific simulations on Available DCIs (hereafter referred to as “SHIWA”) - is a combination of Collaborative projects & Coordination and support actions of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community (2010-2012) co-ordinated by MTA SZTAKI. The SHIWA project's main goal is to leverage existing workflow based solutions and enable cross-workflow and inter-workflow exploitation of DCIs by applying both coarse- and fine-grained strategies. More information on SHIWA can be found here.
"The main goal of the close collaboration of IGE with SHIWA", says Dr. Helmut Heller, project director of IGE, " is to provide Globus support for SHIWA and to address the Globus requirements as appropriate." Dr. Heller refers to software adaption based on request #50 in the IGE Request tracker: http://rt.ige-project.eu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=50. The MoU assigns joint efforts in the following areas:
Requirements transfer and analysis from SHIWA to IGE: SHIWA will provide IGE with any appropriate technical requirements and documentation for development or support by IGE. Both projects will collaborate closely to ensure the requirements are fully under-stood by both projects.
Adaptation of the DCI Bridge Connector of SHIWA software to GT5: This Task will be separated into two phases. In the first phase IGE will analyze the potential for migration of the GT2 and GT4 adaptors of the DCI Bridge to GT5, based on technical documentation and source code of the respective adaptors. In this phase IGE will develop the GT5 adaptor (for file transfer and job submission) based on existing adaptors. In the second phase SHIWA developers will integrate the GT5 plugin into the DCI Bridge, which will be followed by a testing phase using GT5 resources of the IGE Test bed.
Training: IGE and SHIWA will organize a joint event, the related training material will be included in the SHIWA Training Repository. The target users include, but are not limited to, end-users and system administrators.
Dissemination: The projects will collaborate and help each other to disseminate the results from the collaborations within their respective communities and also to address new user communities. This task includes identifying SHIWA publications and events that IGE can contribute to throughout the collaboration, as well as mutual branding. (e.g., mutual presence on project websites, announcing joint events on project websites) of the collaboration. Both projects are permitted to distribute their promotion material at each other’s training events where relevant (e.g., joint training session). IGE will feature SHIWA software in the IGE Tools Market.
