StratusLab is developing a complete, open-source cloud distribution that allows grid and non-grid resource centers to offer and to exploit an “Infrastructure as a Service” cloud. It is particularly focused on enhancing distributed computing infrastructures such as the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI). The project uses agile methodologies to rapidly evolve the distribution to meet cloud user and administrator demands. It operates a reference infrastructure to get feedback from users and to validate the distribution. The project lowers entry barriers by providing “stock” machine images, customization tools, and a “Marketplace” for sharing them. Complete service management with auto-scaling, handling peak demands with hybrid clouds, and other advanced features will appear in later releases. Agreement A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with StratusLab was signed on 21st September 2011 at the EGI Technical Forum. Joint Work Plan A close collaboration between IGE and StratusLab will allow both projects to leverage synergistic cloud and Globus grid developments that potentially already exist and will emerge as part of their work. The specific goals of the collaboration are:
